Specifications

General

Glass guardrails and handrails shall be as manufactured by SUN ARCHITECTURAL PRODUCTS, LLC. 5990 Parkway North Blvd., Cumming, GA 30040 as shown in their current catalog and in accordance with the Architectural drawings.

Railings shall meet or exceed criteria set forth by OSHA, BOCA, ASTM E-985/6 and/or local building codes whichever may govern, at a maximum railing height of 42". The above criteria are dependent upon the availability of an adequate mounting substrate to which the glass railing shoe shall be attached (Le. Structural steel or Structural concrete BY OTHERS and listed under sections for Structural steel or Structural concrete). A current test report shall be supplied with submittals indicating system compliance. When required Shop drawings shall be signed and sealed by Structural Engineer licensed in State where project is located, with calculations provided for each different anchorage condition.

Glass

Glass shall be 1/2" or 3/4" tempered float glass, according to design requirements and load requirements , CLEAR, BRONZE OR GREY as designated by architect. Special patterns may be applied to glass by means of sandblasting (in house or on- site, artwork to be supplied BY OTHERS) or by ceramic frit. Bent glass where required shall be fully tempered. BENT LAMINATED shall be used ONLY in special case applications where bent tempered cannot be used (This shall be determined by Sun Architectural Engineers).

Tempered laminated glass may also be designated by the architect (FLAT PANELS ONLY-BENT GLASS MUST BE STANDARD TEMPERED).

Smoke Baffles

Sun Architectural Products Smoke Baffle shall be 1/2" clear tempered glass panels with all exposed edges polished. Glass shall be suspended from Sun Architectural Products extruded aluminum smoke baffle channel by means of holes through the glass panels, the extrusion and then through bolted. Bolts shall be isolated with plastic isolator sleeves. Channel shall be secured to structural steel or other suitable support in ceiling. (Support BY OTHERS). Dry wall ceiling can either conceal the channel or channel can extend from the drywall and be clad in brake metal, material and finish as selected by Architect. Joints between glass panels can be open or filled with silicone, as directed by the architect.

Base Shoe

Base shall be SUN ARCHITECTURAL one piece extruded aluminum base, alloy 6063-T5 designed and tested to meet designated loads when property anchored to adequate substructure and maximum railing height of 42". Base shall be anchored to structure with anchor type of proper design and spacing as required.

Rail Caps + Cladding + Auxiliary Railing + Wall Rails

Rail caps shall be of Aluminum, Stainless steel, Brass, Bronze or Wood and in standard round or custom shapes (Please call factory for available custom shapes or fax detail for price quotation). Finish on Stainless steel shall be a #4 Satin or #8 Mirror. Brass and Bronze shall be a #4 Satin, #8 Mirror or Antique patina (Chemically applied in field by a firm specializing in metal finishing). It is recommended that Brass and Bronze alloys be sealed with lacquer after installation by firm specializing in metal finishing to prevent premature discoloration.

Aluminum may be Anodized or painted as directed by the Architect.

Wood shall be of clear select hardwoods, or a species as selected by architect. Surfaces shall be sanded and ready to receive final finish (BY OTHERS). Select from standard shaped (round, oval or rectangular) or custom design as required.

Auxiliary and wall railing may be of same materials and finish as rail caps or may be of contrasting material and finish as selected by Architect. We furnish Sun Architectural standard brackets for glass or wall mounting in matching or contrasting finish.

Cladding shall be the same material and finish as rail cap, or may be of contrasting material, in suitable thickness to prevent buckling or oil canning and configured in accordance with the Architectural details.

Fabrication

All railing members shall be fabricated as much as possible in the factory to minimize field erection .

All joints in railings shall be sharp and true, with changes in direction accomplished by mitering or radius to form a clean change of direction .

Miter joints in metal top caps and handrails shall be welded, ground and polished where applicable, and blended to match adjoining material to the greatest extent possible. Where parent metal is exposed in painted or anodized surfaces, touch up shall be performed.

Brake metal cladding shall be formed with true lines , free of burrs and deformities . Material shall be of type, size and shape required , and finish as required.

Installation

Railings shall be erected by SUN ARCHITECTURAL personnel or by persons having not less than five (5) years experience in the erection of ornamental glass railings and projects of similar scope.

Railing shall be erected in strict accordance with the shop drawings and Sun Architectural installation procedures, with all members being level and plumb or to correct pitch in the case of stairs. All curved members shall be formed to correct radius and installed accordingly. Glass panels shall be set in field to allow for maximum adjustment, and shall be aligned and plumb within industry standards, and grouted into place. Intermediate rails , wall rails shall be installed in accordance to shop drawings and Architectural drawings in locations indicated. Cladding shall be installed as shown on Sun Architectural Products approved shop drawings, with all miters sharp and true and in configuration shown.

Erector shall make sure installation is complete and acceptable to Architect and or General Contractor prior to closing out job, and shall address any punch list items in a timely manner.
